Easter is upon us
Charity- the practice of being benevolent, giving and sharing
Charity is word that I often use to describe Cory. Not because he wanted charity. Oh my, he had the hardest time accepting anyone’s help. To Cory life was about giving, helping others, and sharing all he had to give. In the short life that Cory lived he gave so much of himself. Not only did he love his time in working with kids at camp, but also he was an assistant gymnastic coach to children with Autism, loved helping work with many respite kids that I brought home with me. No matter how many hundred of times Alec would say “Cory”; he would always stop whatever he was doing and make time. He was my “go to” in technology. He rolled his eyes at me every time I came to him with another computer problem but always came to my need. He never failed to amaze me.
Family was so important to Cory. When we use the word family in our household, it is quite extensive. It includes everyone that ever touched our lives. Cory had family from Morrison to Australia, California to England, and Germany to Texas. Today that very same family holds me together often when I don’t even realize I need it. Cory brought some of the most amazing people into our life. People I couldn’t even imagine my life without today. They are still there today to share with me a Cory story or to remind me how Cory touched their lives.
The Easter holiday is upon all of us. Myself, like many parents that have lost their children, struggle with holidays. I keep hoping one day it will get easier. It never does.
This Easter when you sit down to celebrate in whatever manner you may, I hope you remember charity and family. Take someone into your heart and make them part of your family. You never know not only the blessing you will be to their life but also the endless blessing they will be to yours. And remember charity…. Every time you give part of yourself to another person, another cause YOU are making a difference. A difference that last beyond a lifetime.
